ROGUE --

Rogue has no other name that she will tell anyone else. For as long as she remembers, she has always been 'Rogue'. She grew up in the South, mostly in Mississippi, having a decent, if rather poor, lifestyle with her birth parents. They moved every couple of years, because her father couldn't find steady work. They'd been living in Caldecott County, Mississippi, when Rogue met a young boy her age named Cody Jarrett. He made fun of her skunk-streak, but they started hanging out together, becoming friends. Finally, the young woman took him up on a dare and kissed him. Her mutant powers kicked in, and she absorbed his memories. Running away from the comatose body, she tearfully recounted what happened to her parents.

By the time the police and EMTs were able to find the boy, he was dead. The police wanted Rogue in jail. The local media wanted her to be hanged for killing the son of a notable county judge. Her parents wanted to flee. The ruckus caused Rogue to flee on her own, to save her parents from the media. As she was a mutant, the local cops called in the Feds, and the Feds called in SHIELD.

Rogue was hiding near the Louisiana border when an older man found her. He had an eyepatch, and he promised he wouldn't hurt her. Nick took care of the frightened and nearly-insane girl for a number of weeks. Rogue was startled when SHIELD troopers suddenly crashed into the abandoned house the two were using. Nick tried to talk his way out of it, but Rogue just punched him for betraying her. She'd /trusted/ him, that rat! However, when the SHIELD-types started shooting, Nick tried to get in the line of fire, taking the bullets for her. Rogue didn't know what to do. She liked Nick... if he'd been younger, she would have fallen head over heels for him. They wouldn't have shot him if he was working for them. As she held his dying body, he touched her cheek. Tears dripping down her face, Rogue leaned down to kiss him. Unconsciously, she held the kiss long enough so that Nick's personality and memories transferred over permanently, despite her conscious desire to only take something minor of Nick's to keep as a momento.

As Nick died, Rogue was seized with the urge to flee once more. She startled the waiting SHIELD agents and used a trick of Nick's to escape. She managed to use her newfound knowledge to flee to New York City, where she currently lives in Hell's Kitchen, hiding in Nick's old stomping grounds.

NICK FURY --

Nicholas Joseph Fury was the elder son of an American pilot who died in WWI. His younger brother's name is Jacob. Nick grew up in a section of NYC known as Hell's Kitchen. Nick grew up through the Roaring 20s and through the Depression. He was still unemployed by the time WWII erupted and Pearl Harbor was bombed. He enlisted in the Army and was trained at Fort Dix, where his drill sergeant used him as the company scapegoat. However, Nick rose to the challenge and turned into a great soldier with excellent leadership skills. He was promoted to sergeant himself and given command of a platoon known as the 'Howling Commandos'. Together, he and they went on a number of missions that aided the war effort for the allies.

However, they weren't always successful. Nick was injured once and Professor Berthold Sternberg innoculated Nick with the 'Infinity Formula', which slowed down his aging processes. Nick had to take injections of the formula every year from then on. Nick also kept getting promoted, finally becoming a Lieutenant in the Korean War and becoming a full-bird Colonel in the 1950s for some work he did for the French government in Nam. Nick's undercover work was enough to get him a full-time job with the CIA and then he was selected for the directorship of SHIELD (Supreme HQ International Espionage Law-enforcement Division, not whatever crap Marvel is now spewing about what SHIELD stands for).

Working with SHIELD was the culmination of a career spent serving the American government. Therefore, it was with no surprise that Nick found himself checking in on the government's worries about the eruption of super-powered beings. SHIELD was sent to check on a young mutant in Mississippi. Nick personally took control of the operation of capturing the mutant for questioning. To his surprise, this 'Rogue' was a scared young woman. Nick questioned his superiors' concerns about this woman, who seemed rather too scared to have done what she was accused of (killing Cody Jarrett). Going in covertly, he got to know Rogue and decided she needed counseling, not prison. He came to be rather fond of her, and protective of her. Nick knew that his superiors would demand imprisonment for Rogue, so he masterminded her escape. Unfortunately, Nick's XO found out and reported him to the upper management.

The operation blown, Rogue belted Nick right in the kisser with her gloved fist. The other SHIELD agents started firing at Rogue. Before the cease fire order could be given, both Rogue and Nick had taken bullets. Nick, however, was dying. As Rogue held him, he let her know he was sorry, that he was trying to help her. As Rogue cried, he reached up and touched her cheek with his gloved hand and thanked her for letting him die in a beautiful woman's arms. His tactic worked and Rogue started smiling a bit, blushing as well. SHIELD's goons surrounded her, ready to end her life as well, for 'killing' their director. Suddenly, Rogue leaned down and kissed Nick, holding the kiss long enough to effect a permanent transference of Nick's memories and personality. Thus is was that Nick Fury's body died, but he lives on, through this extraordinary woman. Rogue used Nick's memories and skills to effect her escape from SHIELD, remaining in hiding to this day, a scared streetkid with a grumpy old coot inside her head who's rather fond of her, giving her pointers to keep them from being rediscovered by SHIELD.
