Zarelin was born into rank. Her parents are Lord and Lady Kimmer, and as the eldest child, she was expected to be the Heir Apparent for the Hold, despite her being a girl. As such, she was plied from an early age with Hold duties and learning and other stuff that drove her into a shell of snottiness due to her rank or loneliness because she had no friends. She idolized her mother, to her the epitome of what she was to be in the future. Unfortunately, the young girl only saw her mother ordering people around, and not why people obeyed her mother. So Zarelin treated others in a high-handed fashion through much of her formative turns.

Things changed drastically at the anti-Weyr Hold when Kenna's blue Calateth came to the Courtyard and practically pounced on Zarelin. The poor girl was frightened out of her wits, as was her mother, both of them shrieking at the dragon and his rider. In the end, Celeste and Zarelin calmed down enough to allow the blue to take them to Honalee Weyr, where the young girl became a candidate. However, she still didn't make any friends. She wound up fighting with most of the candidates, especially the Weyrwoman's brother, Ihvon, due to her rank, and due to a very special occurance. While she was on the sands with Weyrleader K'gor and Weyrwoman Indirah, the late Weyrwoman's queen, Windreth, bespoke her. That certainly didn't help the girl's ego, but it gave her a bit of a perspective on things. She started trying to be nicer to her fellow candidates, even tho most, including Kaisie and Jevlen, just basically ignored her. However, her quarrel with Ihvon continued unabated as he impugned her word when she said that Windreth bespoke her. It came to a head, and he ended it by kissing her. Most emphatically.

The new couple decided to hide their relationship behind the furious fighting of the past, but Celeste still wormed the information out of her daughter as she came to stay at the Weyr as well, and Ihvon told Indirah. However, it remained a general secret until the day of the hatching. Many Weyr personnel were saddened, because they knew that Windreth would go between soon after the hatching. Still, throughout the whole jittery preamble to the hatching, Zarelin kept her head on right and Ihvon came over to her, and the two openly showed something other than hatred for each other. After Zarelin publicly announced that she was no longer a Lady of the Hold, she took Ihvon's hand. The whole candidate class was herded onto the sands, where Zarelin and Ihvon held each other's hands until Ihvon was pulled away by brown Pyrianth. Zarelin, while happy for her lover, was distracted by Jaiper and a sickly bronze. She was so distracted, she nearly didn't see the queen hatch. The Proud Golden Nugget Dragonet took her time to scan the entire assembly of female candidates. Making her way down toward the beginning of the line, where Ariadne stood, she stopped in front of Zarelin. To the young former Heir's utter astonishment, she heard a proud voice echo in her ears. << You are the one. I am Calennoth. I am hungry. >>

The new pair have started to learn their place at the Weyr. Calennoth was a prideful queen, but Zarelin has become almost cheerful, rejoicing in her bond and with I'von's bond with Pyrianth. The foursome spent as much time together as they possibly could, when not doing chores for the Weyrlingmasters. Zarelin has taken to letting people call her Zari, the name that Calennoth calls her. Also, Indirah has given her the knot of a Junior Weyrwoman, and the pair have taken up residence in a weyr east of the hatching grounds.

Recently, Calennoth rose on her maiden flight, to be caught by K'gor's Bronze Valoroth. A log is available. A casualty of the flight, however, was Zari's relationship with I'von. As K'gor spent more and more time with the inexperienced Junior Weyrwoman, she began depending on him more and more. Their relationship was cemented by the sneaky clutching of Calennoth's eggs, including a queen. The two riders went back to her weyr and talked a bit and did some other things that aren't any of your business, but admitted their love. Whether it stands the test of time (or another flight) is anyone's guess.
