Born nearly 50 turns ago to Grenal and Merina, Megan has spent nearly forty of those turns in service to Healer Hall. She grew up at Fort Hold during the Holding of Eleos. Her parents were simple cotholders, doing their part for their Hold. Megan was not a terribly active child, but she turned her talents for organization to helping the local cotholders with things like finding clothes at cheaper prices for their children and the like. When she was 14, Megan joined the nearby Healer Hall's support staff as an assistant headwoman, a profession she was supported in by her parents.
During her first five turns at the Hall, Megan made the acquaintance of a handsome dark-haired senior apprentice named Toral. The two young people made fast friends, keeping in touch even when Toral was promoted to journeyman and was posted to another Hold. At the end of the five turns, Megan was surprised to be selected as the new headwoman when Karyla, the old headwoman, retired and moved to the Southern Continent to ease her joint-ail. The other assistants did not protest, because they all knew that Megan was the best person for the job, even if Megan herself thought one of the others would be better on the grounds of more experience.
Megan's first decade as Headwoman saw her becoming bestest of friends with Toral, once he returned to the Hall. Everyone thought they would pair up, but Toral became a master in his craft and eventually Masterhealer of Pern, and neither person showed an inclination for their relationship to become more intimate. Instead, they both threw their energies to keeping their craft afloat over the turns.
The second decade of Megan's tenure as Headwoman saw her catching the plague that killed many people in the Fort area, before the healers were able to effect a cure. It is rumored that Toral worked himself beyond human endurance to discover the insect whose bite were causing the whole mess, all to save his deathly-ill friend.
This third decade has been marked by some tumultuous times. Fort Weyr has been saying the Pass is nigh, and Toral has practically immersed himself in the archives to dredge up all the Hall's knowledge on the treatment of Threadscore. The Masterhealer also got himself injured with a broken ankle in a fall from a runner, coming back from an emergency in a distant Fort cothold. As the turn passed, Megan attended the wedding of Jason and Cristi, the Lord and Lady of Southern Boll, and wound up returning to Healer Hall with two mouths to feed: blue Teapot and bronze Orion.
Recently, Toral has retired from the Craftmastership to devote more time to his studies. Sharayah has succeeded Megan's friend as Masterhealer and immediately asked Megan to stay on as Headwoman. Megan acceded, not because of her duty, but because Toral is also staying on at the Hall. They now spend a lot of time in each other's offices, working. It was in Megan's office that Toral admitted his love for her, surprised that he hadn't told her before. The two have become a visible inseparable couple, and one Hall staffer was known to comment when the news got out, "Well, it's about sharding time!"
