Dakryn is an older woman, one who has already lived one life and gone onto another. She was married to Morlan at the early age of 15 and bore him two children: Kirlany and Malon. The whole family seemed rather happy together for many Turns. However, when the kids were in their teens, Morlan was killed in a fall from a not-quite-trained runner. Dakryn did her best to keep the cothold running despite her loss, but eventually turned the task over to her children and her brother. She herself went to Honshu Weyr and accepted the post of Headwoman.

In her few Turns as headwoman, Dakryn is noted for having 'broken in' a new Weyrwoman, and for locking up K'in's cookies and making sure the greenrider doesn't eat so many that he gets sick every day. One day, she lucked into finding one of Isis' clutch and wound up impressing bronze Querist. After candidate Kyrian complained one too many times about how her chores were nothing like her previous life as a trader, Dakryn made sure the girl was kept busy with enough chores to teach her the value of Weyr discipline. She figures it was a good choice, because the girl wound up impressing. Now she's got chores for life (*snicker*).

Shortly before the hatching, Dakryn fell ill. She hid her illness from just about everyone, but her adopted son K'in found out. However, he didn't tell the healers or Weyrleaders, because Dakryn asked him not to. She kept silent herself until nearly a month after the hatching, when Querist alerted K'in and S'ard to her collapse. Dakryn promptly resigned, because she had spent her time getting her affairs at the Weyr squared away, and now resides at the Weyr as a resident, recuperating from her illness.
