This is a parody of a parody. The original was called 'On Top of Old Smokey', and I have no clue who wrote it or holds the copyright. However, this filk was written for a Pern setting. Pern and its associate canonical references are copyright 1967, Anne McCaffrey. This filk was written for PernMUSH, an officially-sanctioned MUSH utilizing the Pern theme.
On top of a bubbly, all covered in glaze
I lost my poor berry in my own poor haste
It rolled off the table, it rolled onto the floor
And then my poor berry rolled out of the door
It rolled in the courtyard and under a drudge
And then my poor berry was nothing but sludge
The sludge was as tasty as tasty could be
And early next summer it grew into a tree
The tree was all covered with flowers, leaves pluss'd
It grew great big berries and nice flaky crust
So if you eat a bubbly all covered with glaze
Hold onto your berry and don't eat with haste.
