Techniklerher Jakob Rathskeller

The Gear, Key and Bolt of the EisenReich (The Iron Nation), the blue sash emblazon of the West.

For we are the swords in the darkness! The watchers on the walls! The fire that burns against the cold! The light that brings the dawn! The horn that wakes the sleepers! The shield that guards the realms of men!

-The Ward of the Night's Watch, from G.R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice

In the end, the great Kerensky sold his life dearly. As cold iron and dark magics slew the commoner ambassadors, Kerensky drew his blade and his magics for one last fight to the finish, laying waste to the masked Nobles who sought to kill him; almost three-dozen Sidhe Lords and magi died by his hands before he himself fell. And his people, the people of the EisenReich, watched him die live via broadcast on that fateful Beltane night.

Kerensky was their uncrowned High King; the man who had forged the first G-tek and united the Nockers; who had brought together Iron Riders and Etherites and Adepts and Void Engineers to a common purpose; who had spent his life protecting the innocent and defending truth at the cost of all he held dear, who had led the Kithain call to arms to liberate Europe from the nightmare of the Axis, the greatest leader any of them had ever known. He had distrusted the truce the Sidhe had offered, but had gone hoping he might yet be able to help bridge the gap of understanding between the newly returned Sidhe and the commoners they had abandoned 600 years before...and confident his people could carry on his work even if he fell.

There were five-dozen Engineers of the Iron Nation gathered at the Citidel in the Dutchy of Wolverines to watch via the remote broadcast as the Sidhe turned a flag of truce into a killing field; though the slaughter was on the far end of Concordia, they felt the death even here. Jakob was the youngest there, there only because he was here with his great-uncle, far too young to be a formal member of the EisenReich, but not too young to remember. And to hate.

The Basics:

Name: Jakob Rathskeller Seelie Legacy: Crafter/Sage Kith: Nocker
(Jacob Eli Friedman, PhD, NAE) Unseelie Legacy: Fatalist Seeming: Childling

Physical Description: (IC Wolves Glen Pub Introduction)

The stranger now steps out of the shadows...and the first thing you notice is the face. He's a Nocker, alright --just barely four feet tall, angular facial features, pointed ears and beak-like nose, pasty white complexion broken by ruddy red cheeks, a shock of white hair combed straight back. He looks faintly German, a bit like Beethoven the Nocker...that is, except where the right hand side of his face is covered in masses of scar tissue, like someone had tossed acid or burned it with flame or cold iron. His lip on that side is twisted up in a sneer, and his right eye doesn't quite shut properly when it blinks. He is as ugly as Christina is beautiful, almost revoltingly so. If he were to be embraced by a Nostrafu, he might -improve- in looks. [He has an Appearance Rating of -zero- ]

You'd guess this was Jakob Rathskeller, the Nocker of which Christina told in her story much earlier, and you'd be right. But where Christina described him as tubby, it's clear things have changed since then. He may be short and his legs crippled, but his arms and chest under his shirt show obvious strength even as his abdomen appears as flat as a board.

Jakob leans on a cane and walks with a pronounced limp, almost a shuffle-gait; his legs move like they don't bend at the knees well; his pasty-white legs are themselves misshapen and gnarled, which you can see for yourself as he's only wearing boxer shorts with a swirl design on them for pants. A unbuttoned, open dress shirt, a white undershirt, and sturdy boots complete his ensamble; a work-belt with several tools and pockets is strapped around his waist at a irregular angle as is a long pistol of unfamiliar design; his hair is mussed, his clothes and his wire- rimmed glasses thrown on hap-hazzardly, several large sloppy lipstick kisses are still evident on his face and some welts and hickeys of unknown origin on his neck and other exposed skin surfaces; it's obvious he was interuppted in the middle of something.

Role Playing Hints (Thumbnail personality)

Note: Jakob's original character reflects the character upon graduation from high school in 1976; the current character reflects the experience points from the subsequent 23 years, at a rate of 1 1/2 experience points per month, or a total of 396 experience points.

Also, Jakob is a Fae Eternal --a special class of Kithain equivalent to a human Immortal, but not quite. While he can still get hurt and die like any other, he lives far longer than most--and when reborn like other commoner Fae, is reborn, upon Awakening at the Chrysalis, with all of his former memories from previous lifetimes. The affects of this trait are the merits Fae Eternity, 5 dots of Rememberance, and the ability to have more than 7 points of flaws (and their corresponding freebie points).

  • Faerie Eternity (ages at 1/10th normal, both fae and mortal seemings)

  • Computer and Mechanical Aptitude (-2 to any difficulties dealing with design, repair, operation, etc. of computer of mechanical devices)

  • Swift Hammer (Nocker Advantage) (Roll one d10 at beginning of any extended roll relating to any engineering-type activity (creating, repairing, researching, etc.) and subtract that number of successes from the required number. This roll cannot be botched.)

  • Iron Will (EisenReich Boon) (cannot be Dominated; automatic +1 difficulty to all mental attacks against Turnberry when he is unaware of the attack, +3 when he is)

  • Changeling's Eyes (green)

  • Lame (-2 dice to all rolls involving legs), Disfigured (facial features: zero appearance) and Deformed (further -2 to all rolls involving physical appearance)

  • Asthma (Stamina roll against 6 after any major physical effort (any Strength-related rolls); failure causes loss of all actions on next round while Jakob wheezes)

  • Throwback (dark echoes from a life previous to the dawn of his Fae Eternity that affect him badly...there's a story here...)

  • Slipped Seeming (his mortal form shares the same angular features and pasty appearance of a Nocker)

  • Hatred (tempered somewhat over time) of Gwydion, Dougal, Eiludred and Unseelie Sidhe.

  • Notoriety (EisenReich Flaw) (Due to general distrust of the EisenReich, has a X dice penalty to all social rolls, ranging from

-1 : non-EisenReich members of allied groups: Nockers, Trolls, Sons of Ether, Virtual Adepts, Void Engineers, Glass Walkers, Hunters in technical or engineering trades

-2 : Sidhe of Houses Fiona, Liam or Scathbach; all other supernaturals and morals not listed at -1 or -3

-3 : All other Sidhe; all Kindred; Black Spirals and all Formori; Mauraders and Nephrandi
